The Book Society began its journey as a book fair for small publications which was open in November 2009 at Art Seonjae Center and Korea Crafts & Design Foundation. it operated quite a lot of programs along with a small fair with the fancy name of “Creating a New Culture of Publishing”. There were more visitors than expected and it seems like the reaction was bigger than simple curiosity. In the next year, 2010, it opened its first bookstore in Sangsu-dong, Mapo-gu. Since that, The Book Society settled in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu after moving twice. It has been 5 years and many bookstores like here have appeared and book fairs are activated a lot. More and more people make books and organize book-related spaces, events and exhibitions. Today, The Book Society sells and distributes considerable amount of books which are even hard to compare with before. It has participated in various art book fairs around Europe, America and Asia, and it is still running a wide range of programs.
