BOAN1942 | Eusung Lee Solo Exhibition 《Cowboy》
"Cowboy" is Yoo's third solo exhibition, and is the result of a broadening of her practice through her exploration of the symbols and shapes of the human body. The exhibition consists of five figurines in which the artist scooped out the bodies of real people using plaster casts as the main material, then cut, sutured, and rebuilt the casts, and one sculptural installation in which the artist incompletely reunited aluminum fragments that imitated his own body parts.
Compared to the images of objects that mainly comprise his previous works, the actual human form is clearly revealed in this exhibition, and the way the whole body is realized is an unfamiliar direction. Therefore, for those who are already familiar with Yoo's work, the human figures in this exhibition may come as a betrayal. However, betrayal is an illusion of the viewer. The artist always has the right as a creator to be free from the radius of his work (which also operates on the concept of humanity), and the "cowboy," as the artist himself titled the exhibition, plays with the nature of "betrayal" by exposing it.
